The wedding cake picture is real. It is the biggest vanilla wedding cake, or any flavor of wedding cake, in the world since 2004. It has 7 tiers rising to 17 feet. It took 10,000 pounds of pound cake batter and 4,810 pounds of creamy frosting to make and can feed 59,000 guests.
So how much [...]
Note: This wedding cake was created by Chef Mendy of CakesByThePound.com.
Gabriel Vidauri (CakesbythePound’s Operations Manager) wrote that the wedding dress cake featured below was inspired by 3 wedding dress designs. The bottom layer takes the ruffles from a wedding dress skirt (each ruffle Chef Mendy meticulously made herself), the second level is ribbons from a [...]
Here’s a YouTube video on wedding cake decorating. Watch carefully the part where a layer was put on top of another. The decorator piped frosting/icing in the shape of a heart. Nobody at the reception will notice this but it’s nice to know the layers were glued together with love.

Last year, WeddingCakeHints featured a really sinfull chocolate wedding cake created by Shara. We thought we’d never see another one like it. We are glad to be proven wrong.
Sarah of LittleBakeHouse.co.uk whipped up… or rolled out this chocolate monster of a wedding cake she aptly named the Big Ol’ Pile of Chocolate. Three round tiers [...]
This classic rendition of a white wedding cake with orchid toppers is by Sarah of LittleBakeHouse.co.uk. Stunning, elegant, exquisite… no single word can describe this amazing 3-tier cake perfectly. The purple trim was hand-beaded.

Cutting a wedding cake can be daunting but with a little research ahead, including a talk with the baker to determine the shape, size, consistency, and firmness, this task should be a piece of … cake.
A diagram on how to cut a wedding cake is a great help too. Fortunately, Wilton has graciously [...]
Check out this YouTube video on stacking 4 round layers. They make it look easy.
Note: The featured groom’s cake was made by Chef Mendy of CakesbythePound.com.
Crabs cooked in garlic and butter..mmmnnnnn. This cake is edible but it’s not made of crabs. Chef Mendy said the groom was from Maryland and his wife wanted to get him something that reminded him of home. So she created a crab pot cake.
Everything [...]
When it comes to wedding cakes, we often hear about chocolate ganache. It is used for frosting and filling. Ganache is French for a mixture of cream and chocolate. The usual method of making it is pouring hot cream into chopped chocolate and stirring until the mixture is velvety smooth.
Basic chocolate ganache is used to [...]

Wedding cake baker/artist: Chef Mendy K. Pound
Service area: Los Angeles, California.
Website: www.cakesbythepound.com
E-mail: info [at] cakesbythepoundinc [dot] com
CakesbythePound of Mendy K. Pound (Pastry Chef/Owner) and Gabriel Vidauri (dishwasher/operations manager/co-owner) has granted permission to WeddingCakeHints.com to showcase Chef Mendy’s artistic creations. CakesbythePound is a professional outfit whose motto is “if you think it we can bake it.”
The striking Chef Mendy (she’s got strawberry hair and is svelte in spite of all the sweet stuff) has a lot of international education and experience in creating cakes and pastries but what caught our attention in their about page was she was an artist before she baked wedding cakes and has a sweet tooth (something we have in common
). It is our humble opinion that the best person for any job is somebody who loves everything about it.
Her partner Gabriel, who takes care of the dishes and business, says he’s a soundman with an eye (and maybe a tooth?) for edible and sweet art. A really nice guy judging by the way he replied to our email so it won’t be a problem contacting him.
So if somebody in the City of Angels needs a heavenly wedding cake for that special day, these duo might just be the saviour.
Update:
Gabriel has sent us a little story of how CakesbythePound came about. In his words…
I met Mendy during the filming of Welcome to the Parker, in Palm springs. I was the audio supervisor
for the television crew and she was the Executive Pastry chef there. The show took 3 months to film, so
during that time, Mendy and I got to know each other. After corresponding for sometime we decided to open up Cakes by the Pound. Her father, Mr. Pound, came up with the name.

Pictures can be worth a thousand words but what they tell are sometimes not enough. Just take a look at this pink classic with clean and modern lines. Three pink layers united by a wide chocolate ribbon. There certainly is more to it than what the photo says. It makes a nice, light choice for those looking for chocolate wedding cake designs.

A closer view of this beauty…

Shara, the designer/creator, describes her as having “strawberry cake top and bottom layers… caramel and pastry cream filling on a vanilla cake middle layer.” Sounds yummy.

Wedding cake baker/artist: Shara Lunn
Service area: Nashville, Tennessee
Website: www.cakesbyshara.net
E-mail: sharalunn [at] comcast [dot] net
Cake designer and artist Shara Lunn of Nashville, Tennessee, has graciously granted WeddingCakeHints permission to feature her wonderful wedding cakes. We are really excited because they are one of the most beautiful cakes we’ve ever seen. The details she puts in each creation is amazing. Not surprising, since she’s been designing and baking for 20 years.
If you’re living somewhere near Nashville or know somebody who do and needs a hand in deciding what the centerpiece of their wedding banquet will be, send Shara an email at sharalunn-[at]-comcast-dot-net or visit her website at CakesbyShara. She replies to emails as soon as she can. We can attest to that since she replied to ours within 10 minutes. This is her contact schedule copied directly from the site:
- Phones are answered Tuesday-Friday 10:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M.
- We are closed on Sunday and book tasting on Monday.
- Weekends are reserved for pre-booked events.
- We are by apointment only, and do not see guest when we are in the production kitchen.
We do suggest at least a 2 week or more notice to place an order on all custom cakes.
- Lead time needed for commercials is 48-72 hours notice.
- Cupcakes can be ordered with a 24-48 hour notice.
- Cookies favors if over 100 need a two week notice, less can be ordered with about a weeks notice on average.
Shara can also be found at Flickr. Her profile is here and her photostream is here. Check out her other cakes, cupcakes, and the cookies. We’ve never seen cookies like hers.

Blue is traditionally a boy’s color but wedding cakes with blue icing are way cool to the eyes. The traditional wedding cake featured is of a color combination fit for a princess, royal blue on cream. We think a Tiffany blue on pure white combination will also be fetching.

Ever dreamed of riding off into the sunset with your bride or groom? This vintage-looking wedding cake topper
should be a good start. Features two silver-finish riders holding hands and with the words “two trails become one road” engraved in the pedestal. Be careful though, it’s not food-grade.
